Process Controllers
Process controllers, or PID controllers, are electronic devices used to measure a process variable and make adjustments to keep that variable within a set range or at a desired setpoint. Controllers are used in industry to regulate temperature, pressure, force, flow rate and much more.

Process controllers use embedded software and a wide variety of functions to make precise adjustments using advanced feedback control. PIDs continuously take measurements from sensors and make adjustments to the final control element to maintain the desired setpoint. Alarms notify operators of any undesired measurements or results.

Most controllers also have a display, and can provide display parameters based on hardware configuration, masking irrelevant parameters if necessary. This way, operators only need to adjust the setpoint and alarm, then launch self-tune.

PXU PID Controllers Series Image
Red Lion's PXU line of PID controllers is the perfect solution for your basic control requirements. The PXUís capabilities cover applications requiring simple on/off control all the way to full PID control. Featuring one of the industryís largest displays, the PXU is easy to read from a distance. Available in various sizes, 1/16, 1/8 and 1/4 DIN and packaged in a space saving design, the PXU can be installed into enclosures with a reduced depth to save space and money.
Display:
The PXU offers a dual line display with four digits on each line. Status indication of alarms, control, and temperature enhance the display functionality. The front panel provides IP65 protection.
Inputs:
One of the outstanding features of the PXU is the universal input capability which allows them to operate with pressure transducers, flow meters, current transducers, RTDs and thermocouples. Input selection is easy using the front panel push-buttons, or Red Lionís Crimsonģ 2 software.
Options:
Programming the PXU is easy using the RS-485 communication option. Using the award-winning Crimson 2 software, simple check boxes or numerical entries makes short work of programming multiple units. In addition to programming, the RS-485 port can also be used to collect the process values from the PXU and remotely display that information.

Microprocessor controller, format 48x48 (1/16 DIN) manufactured using SMT. Provides a complete operator interface protected by a Lexan membrane that ensures level IP65 faceplate protection. It has 4 keys, two green LED displays, each with 4 digits, 4 red signal LEDís for the 4 logic or relay outputs, and 3 other programmable LEDís to signal the various operational states of the instrument. The main input for process variable is universal, and many types of signals can be connected: thermocouples, resistance thermometers, thermistors, normalized linear inputs, all with possibility of custom linearization using the faceplate keys. The type of input is selected from the faceplate keys; no external shunts are required. A second auxiliary analog input from the current transformer is also available.

Composed of 4 keys, double 4-digit green LED display, 4 red signal LEDs for the 4 relay/logic outputs and 3 additional LEDs with programmable function to signal the instrumentís various function states. The main input for the variable to be controlled is universal, and allows connection of a wide variety of signals: thermocouples, resistance thermometers, thermistors, normalized linear inputs, all with possibility of custom linearization set from the faceplate. Input type is selected entirely from the faceplate and requires no external adapter shunts/dividers.
